US Government Shutdown Enters Record-Breaking Territory

United States

The partial government shutdown has now become the longest in American history. It started on December 22, 2018, and has continued into the new year. This is the third shutdown since President Trump took office.

Many government services have stopped. National museums and parks are closed. Immigration hearings are delayed. The Food and Drug Administration has stopped its usual checks on food factories.

About 800,000 federal workers are affected. More than 420,000 of them are working without pay. The rest have been told to stay home.

Experts are now looking at how this shutdown might hurt the wider US economy.
