Milestone Plane Crash: 25 Children Among 31 Dead

An air force fighter training plane has crashed into Milestone school and college campus in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka. At least 31 people were killed, including the pilot.

The crash happened on Monday at about 1pm in the Uttara neighborhood of Dhaka. The plane hit the campus of Milestone School and College while students were taking tests or attending regular classes.

The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mohammed Toukir Islam, tried his best to steer the plane away from crowded areas. The military said he made “every effort” to crash in a less populated place. They will investigate what caused the crash.

At least 171 people were injured. Some of them died later on Tuesday. Most of the injured children were between 8 and 14 years old, a doctor said. At least 25 of the dead were children.

Videos after the crash showed a large fire and thick black smoke rising into the sky. Firefighters sprayed water on the destroyed plane, which had crashed into the side of a building. The impact left a big hole in the building.

Other videos on social media showed people screaming and crying while others tried to comfort them.
