Cyprus and India have deepened their bilateral relations with the signing of multiple key agreements during the visit of Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to Cyprus.
The most significant of these agreements was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defense and military cooperation, underscoring the close ties between the two nations, which have spanned over six decades. The MoU was signed by Jaishankar and his Cypriot counterpart, Ioannis Kasoulides, in Nicosia.
In addition to the defense pact, the two countries also signed an MoU formalizing Cyprus’ accession to the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The ISA, which promotes solar energy cooperation, aims to enhance the efficient production and consumption of solar power, reducing global reliance on fossil fuels.
Jaishankar also met with Cypriot Interior Minister Nicos Nouris, where they signed a Letter of Intent to begin negotiations for a migration and movement agreement. This initiative is focused on addressing irregular immigration between the two countries.
These agreements reflect the growing partnership between Cyprus and India in areas of defense, renewable energy, and migration management.
