Turkey Successfully Tests SIPER Block-2 Air Defense System

The first firing test of the SIPER Block-2 air defense system was successfully conducted at the Sinop Test Range, according to the October 2023 edition (Issue 126) of Defence Turkey Magazine.

Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Defence Industry Agency, expressed his congratulations to the involved parties, stating: “The first firing test of SIPER Block-2 was successfully carried out from the Sinop Test Range. I congratulate ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TÜBİTAK SAGE, and all our subcontractors involved in the project.”

The SIPER Project was initiated by the Defence Industry Agency (SSB) to fulfill Turkey’s long-range regional air and missile defense requirements. It is a collaborative effort involving ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, and TÜBİTAK SAGE.

During the test, telemetry data was collected under flight conditions. These data will play a critical role in advancing the next phases of the project.

SIPER, a high-to-medium surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, is designed to counter a wide range of airborne threats, including: aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

With an operational range of 150 kilometers, the system provides robust air defense for critical infrastructure and regions.

Launched in 2018 by the Presidency of Defence Industries, the SIPER project represents Turkey’s growing self-reliance in defense technology. The system’s missile components are developed by Roketsan, while ASELSAN is responsible for most sensors and electronics. TÜBİTAK SAGE contributes to the system’s research and development.

The successful test marks a significant step toward enhancing Turkey’s defense capabilities and its position in the global defense industry.
