Mac Jee Group, a Brazilian defense company, has unveiled a new loitering munition prototype, named Anshar, at the Dubai Airshow this week, signaling its entrance into the rapidly evolving field of exploding drones. This emerging weaponry, also known as kamikaze drones, has gained attention due to its effectiveness in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. These drones are designed to remain airborne until a remote operator commands them to dive into a target.
The prototype, presented by Mac Jee Group, boasts impressive specifications. The Anshar has a range of 120 kilometers (62 miles), reaches speeds of 612 kilometers per hour (380 mph), and has an endurance of up to one hour. It can carry a payload of 20 kilograms (44 pounds).
Mathieu Izquierdo, the group’s Sales Business Development Director, emphasized that the Anshar was created in response to the evolving warfare tactics seen in global conflicts. “It’s a new product from Mac Jee that aligns exactly with the new war doctrines,” Izquierdo stated, referencing the increased use of similar weapons in Eastern Europe. He also confirmed that the Anshar was designed to cater to international customers beyond Brazil.
Izquierdo highlighted that the Anshar is intended to offer cost-effective solutions for destroying high-value targets, featuring easy maintenance and user-friendly operation. However, details regarding its price have not been disclosed.
A live demonstration of the Anshar is scheduled for the World Defense Show in Saudi Arabia, taking place from February 4-8. Mac Jee, which exports the majority of its products to the Middle East, plans to officially launch the drone in early 2025.
Headquartered in São José dos Campos, Brazil, a hub for defense and aerospace industries, Mac Jee Group operates alongside notable firms such as Embraer. The company’s participation in the Dubai Airshow marks an important step in its international expansion.
