Bangladesh claimed a historic 2-0 clean sweep over Pakistan in their two-match Test series, securing a six-wicket victory in the second match on Tuesday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Chasing a target of 185, Bangladesh comfortably reached the mark on the fifth day of the second Test, thanks to solid batting performances from Zakir Hasan, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Shakib Al Hasan.
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field, dismissing Pakistan for 274 runs. Despite early setbacks in their own first innings, where they were reduced to 26 for 6, Bangladesh recovered thanks to an outstanding partnership between Litton Das (138) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78), reaching 262 runs.
At the close of day three, commentators suggested the match might end in a draw, but Bangladesh’s bowlers stunned Pakistan by dismissing them for just 172 runs in the second innings.
Litton Das was named Player of the Match, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz was awarded Player of the Series.
With this victory, Bangladesh recorded their first-ever Test series win over Pakistan and rose to fourth place in the World Test Championship standings. Pakistan, meanwhile, extended their winless streak in home Tests, having drawn four and lost six since their last victory over South Africa in February 2021.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his team’s delight, praising their collective effort: “The bowling unit was very impressive, and everyone was honest with themselves, wanting to win. It was a total team effort, including those who didn’t play but worked hard in the field.”
Pakistani captain Shan Masood acknowledged his team’s shortcomings, stating, “We could have bowled them out, especially when they were 26 for 6. We let them back in. Test cricket demands fitness for five days, from both batsmen and bowlers.”
