Bangladesh Orders Leonardo’s KRONOS LAND Radar for Enhanced Air Surveillance

The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) has procured Leonardo’s KRONOS LAND radar system to strengthen its air surveillance capabilities. The contract, announced by Leonardo at the Bahrain International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BIDEC) held in Manama from October 28-30, 2019, marks a significant step in modernizing the BAF’s defense infrastructure.

In addition to the radar system, Leonardo will provide: advanced communications equipment, a 12-month technical support service package, spare parts, and a comprehensive training program for BAF personnel, conducted both in Italy and Bangladesh. This package ensures the BAF can develop a long-term maintenance capability, enhancing the radar system’s functionality and operational longevity.

The KRONOS LAND radar is a state-of-the-art, multifunctional, multi-mission 3D radar designed for air surveillance and defense. Built with Full Active-Electronically-Scanned-Array (AESA) technology, the system offers robust performance in detecting and tracking targets in tactical environments. Leonardo has delivered over 40 KRONOS family systems worldwide, demonstrating its reliability and effectiveness.

This acquisition strengthens Leonardo’s presence in Bangladesh, building on the prior delivery of the RAT31 surveillance system to the BAF for early warning and air defense. The KRONOS LAND radar system further enhances the BAF’s capacity to safeguard national airspace while showcasing Bangladesh’s commitment to adopting advanced defense technologies.

This strategic procurement aligns with the BAF’s long-term vision to bolster its operational readiness and modernize its defense systems.
