Buddhist Community in Bangladesh Celebrates Buddha Purnima

The Buddhist community in Bangladesh marked “Buddha Purnima” on Wednesday, one of the most significant festivals in the Buddhist calendar, celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha.

Pagodas in the capital, Dhaka, were adorned with lights, while temples across the country were filled with devotees. Rituals included offerings of fruits, flowers, and candles to statues of Lord Buddha, who was born on a full moon day in 563 BC.

Special prayers were held at monasteries nationwide, with participants seeking peace, progress, and prosperity for the nation.

On the occasion, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina extended their greetings to the Buddhist community and the people of Bangladesh.
